Numbers don’t lie. It’s one of the few things that do not. As a writer regardless if you’re going the traditional or self publish route it helps to know what is selling, who is purchasing and why. I know, I know numbers are confusing and boring but don’t cut out on me just yet. I am about to give you some basic percentages so you will get to know the trends in the writing world.
All of the info below is in the ABA report that was released last week. One of the things that caught my eye was the sales revenue of ebooks in the year 2011. It totaled $21.5 million, 332.6% higher than the previous year. A tremendous increase in other countries proves that people are starting to enjoy reading again. In the UK there was a 22.9% increase with a 1316.8% increase in ebooks and a 10.4% increase in print books. Latin America showed a 15.4% increase in revenue, 201.6% in ebook sales and 9.7% in print. Lastly in Africa showed a 21.9% revenue increase with 638.8% increase in ebooks and 17.1% in print.
Higher demands for the different ereaders, better marketing, increase in English speaking foreigners and television pop programs other countries are now able to watch are contributing factors for the increase in sales. So not only do you as a writer need to pay attention to consumers likes on your block but who buys similar novels across the pond which can potentially increase the sales of your novels. Don’t ever discount other countries always think big!
Peace and luv!
