It saddens me to say this but another novel that was born thru fan fiction has gotten a book deal.
Mimickers Hobbs and Lauren Billings co-wrote Beautiful Bastard after the novel The Office which generated over 2 million downloads years ago. Penguin Group is picking it up and from what I’ve heard it is a pretty decent deal. So is this the new thing, take an already published novel, change a few character’s names then sell it as though it were your own? I must have missed that email or maybe it is in my spam folder.
It is ok to be inspired by a story, a life situation, etc however it is another thing to literally copy the plot, character’s demeanor, mannerisms, sayings and weaknesses to the t.
In August Penguin also took Gabriel’s Inferno and Gabriel’s Rapture which stemmed off of the Twilight series. They must be so proud of themselves!
